TelePacific Talks: Class of Service Telepacific

There are only a few things more frustrating than having a phone conversation where there is a significant delay between when one person says something and the other person actually hears it. You wait for a pause in the conversation to interject your thoughts, only to be interrupted by the other person, who hasn’t yet heard that you’ve begun to talk. Of course, you then do the polite thing and pause but they pause as well, so you start talking again, as do they, leading to a cycle of frustration and unfinished syllables.

If phone conversations are a critical part of relationship building and deal closing in your business, you want to make sure they occur in real time. Even the slightest delay can be problematic. You also want to ensure that syllables, words or even sentences aren’t randomly dropped from the conversation, turning your perfect sales pitch into an unintelligible, choppy mess.

But how can you make sure that your business-critical data (in this case, voice) are transferred in real time, without delay? TelePacific’s 1Net offers Classes of Services (CoS), which means you can prioritize the type of data that is critical to your business. Prioritizing your data ensures that the most important data gets through the online data clutter as efficiently and as quickly as possible, every time.

Perhaps voice data isn’t as critical to your company as, say, video data. You work for a community hospital that is performing a surgery being guided by medical specialists across the country through video conferencing. You absolutely don’t want any delay in that video stream! You could choose a CoS level that prioritizes your video data and doesn’t let it get bogged down by a physician in the hospital accessing non-emergency medical records.

Or if your company is one of a growing number who are using Software as a Service (SaaS) products, in which the software is hosted in one location and made available to users through the network, the right CoS level can be extremely helpful. You can set it up so that a key stroke by a user produces an immediate response, as if the application were on the desktop computer. That may mean that you decide printing can be delayed a little bit, thus letting the higher priority traffic go through with no impact on quality.

TelePacific offers six different CoS levels to meet your company’s needs, so there’s a level perfectly suited for you. If waiting half a second to get a client’s contact information from your office database won’t make you lose sales, and you’re not using VoIP, the Best Effort service that’s included in TelePacific’s basic 1Net services will likely meet your needs. However, as the real-time transfer of your information becomes more critical, you may consider upgrading to a higher CoS level.

As you upgrade CoS levels, you have more flexibility to decide exactly how you want to use your bandwidth, thus prioritizing the type of data you transfer. For example, say you’re managing a call center, where the quality and latency of the phone calls is of utmost importance. If you chose the highest CoS level, you could assign 65% of your bandwidth to voice data, 25% to your business data and the remaining 10% for other data needs. Of course, if you’re not using all 65% for voice data, that capacity is made available for other data needs and then reclaimed for voice when the need arises.

This level of customization not only ensures that your business-critical data needs are met, but it can also save your company money. By controlling how your data is prioritized, you can make the most of your existing bandwidth, saving you upgrade costs. A higher CoS may

also improve the quality of your network, allowing mission critical operations to function at their optimum level of performance. It will improve your customer service, with speedier responses and no dropped information. And it can improve your employees’ productivity if they don’t experience delays when working with network assets.

So how can you begin taking control of your data prioritization? Call your TelePacific representative today and ask about CoS levels. He or she will talk with you about your data requirements and help you find the most cost-effective level that meets your needs. And then you can be sure your most critical data will always come through.
